[VOICE POST]
It has been two weeks since I arrived here, and finally I feel as though I'm starting to understand this place. More or less. I don't know whether I am more surprised by the differences between this city and Viron, or the similarities; finding the rare and often distorted commonalities is shocking since most things around me are so alien. It doesn't help that things are so inconsistent here, due to what I am given to understand is the will of the city's gods. Ours were rarely so involved, at least now; once, of course, it was more common for men to converse with them, but these days very few live who have done so.
Certainly there are some redeeming qualities, here; for one thing if I do not watch myself, I shall get fat before I return to my own whorl. And I must confess the amount of information available, with the use of this computer-glass, is a thrill. I have heard there is a library, as well, though I have yet to visit it myself. I have always liked to read, though I probably should not do as much as I have been, having lost my glasses.
So, I am curious, city-- what is it that surprised you most about this place, other than your sudden arrival in it?

Date: 2008-08-28 01:42 am (UTC)Hm, let me think. I believe it is safe to say that the curses and people's awareness of vampires is different from my home.

Date: 2008-08-28 01:56 am (UTC)I'm afraid I must admit my ignorance; what is a vampire?
no subject
Date: 2008-08-28 02:08 am (UTC)One who lives on the blood of others to survive. At least, that is the definition of my home.

Date: 2008-08-28 02:40 am (UTC)That is... unusual. I do not know if we have vampires in my whorl. Are they common, where you are from?

Date: 2008-08-28 02:42 am (UTC)Somewhat. Why do you call your home a whorl?

Date: 2008-08-28 02:52 am (UTC)Some words seem to be different, where I am from, though the language spoken here is more or less the same as my own. I never heard the word "world" until I came here; it's curious, though, how much it sounds like "whorl." I almost wonder if the words are related.

Date: 2008-08-28 02:58 am (UTC)And what is your whorl like?
no subject
Date: 2008-08-28 03:11 am (UTC)My whorl is... very different, from this one. There are no skylands here, beyond the sun; and the sun is a point in the sky, not a gold path across the sky. Our city is more crowded and I think older, though I can't say for certain; it looks older, at least, and much of it is not in good condition, sadly; those in the poorer quarters cannot keep the buildings repaired.
I have never traveled very far from Viron-- my city-- so I do not know if other cities are more like this one... I imagine they are not, though, as the whole whorl was built by Pas. We all share the same sun, after all.

Date: 2008-08-28 03:13 am (UTC)That sounds fascinating...

Date: 2008-08-28 03:31 am (UTC)It is fascinating for me as well, seeing how different things are in this whorl. I think the night sky as it is here lies outside the whorl-- deep beneath the ground, wide and limitless as the Outsider. We never see it, though; not normally, at least. I have, but I doubt more than a handful of people living in Viron have. If that.
