I still have not gotten to the library; I think I shall go later this week. Perhaps on... Thursday?... since that is the day governed by Thelxiepeia, even if you don't call it by her name, here. Molpe, as the patroness of art, would be fortuitous as well; but Thelxiepeia is more aligned with learning, which is my ultimate goal.
It occurred to me, though- for I did pass by the building- that I shall have no idea where to start.

So, good City-- what do you recommend as reading material for a fool like me? [Small, good-natured laugh.] And if anyone would care to join me, I'd be glad for the company. If Thelxday isn't-- Thursday-- isn't convenient for you, I don't mind changing the date, either.

In other news, it appears I may be acquiring a pet in the near future, provided none of my roommates object to my keeping one of Suresh's ducklings. I have not thought of a suitable name for it. I named Oreb, the night-chough who took it upon himself to move in with me, after a raven in the Writings; but offhand I cannot think of any places where ducks are mentioned...

I do hope that the recent curses have not left anyone too distressed. I myself have been spared thus far, thank the gods; but for those who have not, you are in my thoughts. If anyone wants a sympathetic ear, albeit an easily confused one, do let me know.

Oh! My mistake; more often than not I am the one who doesn't understand words from other whorls. A duck is a kind of bird that lives on the water; I think they tend to eat weeds and water-plants, and their feathers have a kind of oil on them so they do not get waterlogged. They're not very large, and they make an odd and, well, somewhat un-birdlike noise.

I used to live near enough to water to see seabirds, but I'm not sure I've ever seen one like that! Fresh water, or sea water?

I have only ever seen them on fresh water; I don't know about sea water. There is only a lake, near my city; I'm not sure if there is a sea in the whole whorl.

Beauty is my queen fire-lizard. I have a total of nine and they're all very good eaters, but they listen to me, so the duck won't be hurt.

Goodness. I must confess I have never heard of a fire-lizard; I do not think we have them in my whorl.

It is a pleasure, Menolly. You need not call me 'sir,' though; Silk is fine, or if you prefer, my proper title as an augur would be Patera. I do not stand on formality, though.

That just seems weird to me, but I'm used to them. Do you have dragons, at least?

We don't; not that I have heard of, though they are mentioned in some children's stories. The legend is that there were such beasts on the Short-sun whorl, but I cannot say.

I do not know what a Master is; an augur, in my whorl, acts as the intermediary between bios and the gods. I offer prayers and sacrifices to the gods, and read the signs they offer to us.
